To be able to demonstrate the superiority of socialism over capitalism, Stalin edu cated the uneducated and built gigantic constructions from nothing. His main plans were known as collectivisation and the Five-Year Plans. This came at a large sacrifice to the workers, which was their loss of freedom and extremely harsh work in dreadful conditions. Stalin used terror to keep the workers, working hard to build a better Russia; there was often constant exiling to Siberia. The Great Purges destroyed any sense of independent thinking and created terror around Russia causing many millions to die. If it werent for Stalins push for industrialisation the Nazis would have defeated them in the Second World War. When Stalin commenced his totalitarian regime he had two goals for Russia.
